Union County Foundation awards more than $14,000 in community grants

July 27, 2016 - Liberty, IN 

The grants committee at the Union County Foundation in Liberty recently reviewed community grant applications submitted in the second quarter of 2016. A total of $14,881 was awarded to eight local projects. Congratulations to following grantees!

Union County High School received three grants. $431 for the Model Legislature Program, which will secure transportation and awards for participating students.

The Tutor U program located at Union County High School received $1,500 to help run its second year of free tutoring service available to all students in our school district.

The Academic Teams Competition program at High School is receiving $1,200 – funding that will help relieve students of expenses of participating in the program such as competition attendance and awards.

A $6,500 grant award is going towards installation of two Pickleball courts in Brownsville – a project undertaken by the Brownsville United Methodist Church. This new recreational activity space will be a nice addition that will benefit residents of all ages.

The Union County Community Care is receiving $2,000 towards purchasing classroom items that will assure compliance with current health and safety regulations.

Down Syndrome Indiana, Inc. was awarded with $250 to create and distribute New Parent Packets for local families whose child has been diagnosed with Down syndrome.

The Union County Historical Society was granted $1,000 grant that will help with the upcoming 2016 Founders Day festival in Liberty.

A grant of $2,000 was awarded to Union County Development Corporation to fund the local celebration of Indiana Bicentennial and Harvest Fest in September of 2016.
